V INTERNATIONAL GUITAR COMPETITION OF MADRID

June 2023

RULES

  1. Those who want to participate in the IV International Guitar Competition of Madrid must enroll in the Festival as an “active student” (Mode A or B) or as Oyente+Concurso (Attendance as guest student + Competition).

* Those competitors enrolled as guest student+Competition can enroll later as “active student” (if there are places). In that case, the price for participating in the competition will be deducted from the registration fee.

  1. There will be two categories:

  • Youth: from 15 to 20 years old

  • Professional: from 21 to 35 years old

No limit in the number of inscriptions.

  1. Rounds and Repertoire

Youth Category

  • Preliminary Round Video (until May 7, 23:59h, CEST, UTC+2): a free choice programme of maximum 5 minutes of music. The jury will select 15 competitors for the semifinal round.

  • Semifinal Round (June 12, in person): 8 to 10 minutes (of music) of a programme of your choice. Pieces performed during preliminary round cannot be repeated. 5 participants will advance to the Final round.

 

  • Final Round (June 13, in person): 10 to 15 minutes (of music) of a programme of your choice. Pieces performed during previous rounds cannot be repeated.

Professional Category

  • Preliminary Round video (until May 7, 23:59h, CEST, UTC+2): a free choice programme of maximum 8 minutes of music. The jury will select 15 competitors for the semifinal round.

  • Semifinal Round video (June 12, in person): 12 to 15 minutes (of music) of a programme of your choice, including different styles or periods. Pieces performed during preliminary round cannot be repeated. 5 participants will advance to the Final round.

  • Final round (June 14, in person): 20 to 25 minutes (of music) of a programme of your choice, including different styles or periods, and a piece by a Spanish composer from XX or XXI centuries. Total duration must not exceed 25 minutes (of music). Pieces performed during previous rounds cannot be repeated.

  1. The draw to decide the order of performance in the Youth Category will be held 30 minutes before the round starts. Competitors will be informed of the venue later on.

  • Semifinal Youth: June 12, 2023

  • Final Youth: June 13, 2023

  • Semifinal Professional: June 12, 2023

  • Final Professional: June 14, 2023

  1. Documents

In order to participate in the International Guitar Competition of Madrid, participants must fill out the registration bulletin and send it to the e-mail formacion1@festivalguitarramadrid.com, including a copy of ID card or Passport (scanned version) and the payment receipt of the registration fee before the deadline.

Deadline: until 7 May 2023

* Protection of Personal Data: The data collected will be processed in accordance with applicable legislation, and in particular Regulation (EU) 2016/679.

  1. Videos

The performer must say his/her name, category, round date and repertoire before playing, making it clear that the video is being recorded for the V International Guitar Competition of Madrid. The video should be uploaded to YouTube, Vimeo or similar platforms and the link must be sent to the previous e-mail.

  • Format: mp4, 720p HD (1280×720) preferably

  • The recording must show the performer clearly.

  • Interruption of the recording is not allowed, as well as editing and playback.

  • The video must be recorded for this competition. Old recordings will not be allowed.

  1. The Jury’s verdict for the Preliminary round in both categories will be publicly announced on social media and will be also sent to the competitors by e-mail before May 14.

The verdict for Semifinal and Final rounds in each category will be announced after the end of performances once the jury has deliberated.

  1. The awards ceremony for each Category will be held on the day of the final round, when the Jury’s verdict is announced.

  1. Candidates who have won the first prize at the International Guitar Competition of Madrid in previous years cannot compete in the same category again.

  1. Jury in both categories will be made up of prestigious professionals and important figures in Guitar and Music.

  1. The decisions of the jury are final and subject to no right of appeal.

  1. The jury may declare undecided prizes.

 

  1. Prizes can increase. It will be noticed before the registration deadline.

  1. By registering to participate in the competition, participants accept the terms and conditions.

  1. Participation in the competition implies the transfer to International Guitar Festival of Madrid the rights of reproduction and distribution, of photographic and recording material, under the legislation on Intellectual Property, through the media considered, all non-profit. Semifinal and Final rounds may be live-streamed.

 

  1. Organization is not responsible for anything that does not appear in these rules.

The finalist who best performs a piece by a Spanish composer from XX or XXI centuries will receive a cash prize of 250 euros donated by Leona Cases, 3 Knobloch set strings and 3 months of suscription to Strommar.

Special Prize for the best female finalist

The best female in the Final round of the Professional Category, chosen by the jury, will receive a cash prize of 250 euros, 2 Knobloch set strings and 3 months of suscription to Strommar.

Audience Special Prize RC Strings (Professional Category)

The audience who attend the final round of the Professional Category will have the opportunity of choosing their favourite finalist. The one who gets more votes will receive a special set by RC Strings and 3 months of suscription to Strommar.
