III INTERNATIONAL GUITAR COMPETITION OF MADRID

19 – 27 June 2021

 

RULES

 

 

 

  1. Open to any classical guitarist under the following terms and conditions
  2. There will be two categories:
  • Youth: from 15 to 20 years old
      Registration fee: 65 €
  • Professional: from 21 to 35 years old
    Registration fee: 80 €

No limit in the number of inscriptions.

  1. Rounds and Repertoire

Due to the pandemic situation, there are some changes in deadlines and format (please read carefully)

Youth Category:

  • Preliminary Round Video (until April 25, 23:59h, CEST, UTC+2): a free choice programme of maximum 5 minutes of music. The jury will select 15 competitors for the semifinal round.
  • Semifinal Round Video (until May 28, 23:59h, CEST, UTC+2): 8 to 10 minutes (of music) of a programme of your choice. Pieces performed during preliminary round cannot be repeated. 5 participants will advance to the Final round.
  • Final Round (June 21): 10 to 15 minutes (of music) of a programme of your choice. Pieces performed during previous rounds cannot be repeated.

Professional Category:

  • Preliminary Round video (until April 30, 23:59h, CEST, UTC+2): a free choice programme of maximum 7 minutes of music. The jury will select 15 competitors for the semifinal round.
  • Semifinal Round video (until June 11, 23:59h, CEST, UTC+2): 10 to 12 minutes (of music) of a programme of your choice and the required piece “Evocación” by composer Ángel G. Piñero. Pieces performed during preliminary round cannot be repeated. 5 participants will advance to the Final round. 
  • Final round (until June 17, 23:59h, CEST, UTC+2): 10 to 15 minutes (of music) of a programme of your choice, including different styles or periods, and the required piece “Fantasía Andaluza” by composer Ángel G. Piñero (in addition to the 10-15 minutes programme). Pieces performed during previous rounds cannot be repeated.

  1. Documents

In order to participate in the International Guitar Competition of Madrid, participants must fill out the registration bulletin and send it to the e-mail formacion@festivalguitarramadrid.com, including a copy of ID card or Passport (scanned version) and the payment receipt of the registration fee before the following deadlines.

Youth Category: until April 22
Professional Category: until April 28

* Protection of Personal Data: The data collected will be processed in accordance with applicable legislation, and in particular Regulation (EU) 2016/679.

  1. Vídeos

The performer must say his/her name, category, round and repertoire before playing, making it clear that the video is being recorded for this competition. The video may be sent via WeTransfer, Google Drive or similar and it must not be uploaded to social media until the results of the Preliminary Round are published.

  • Format: mp4, 720p HD (1280×720) preferably
  • The recording must show the performer clearly.
  • Interruption of the recording is not allowed, as well as editing and playback.
  • The video must be recorded for this competition. Old recordings will not be allowed.
  1. The Jury’s veredict for the Preliminary round will be publicly announced on social media and will be also sent to the competitors by e-mail on the following dates:

    Youth Category: April 26
    Professional Category: May 2

  2. The semifinal videos will be posted on social media and veredicts will be announced on the following dates (also by e-mail):

    Youth Category: May 31
    Professional Category: June 13

  3. The final veredicts will be announced on the following dates:

    Youth Category: June 21 (after the end of performances)
    Professional Category: June 22

  4. Candidates who have won the first prize at the International Guitar Competition of Madrid in previous years cannot compete in the same category again.
  5. Jury in both categories will be made up of prestigious professionals and important figures in Guitar and Music.
  6. The decisions of the jury are final and subject to no right of appeal.
  7. The jury may declare undecided prizes.
  8. Prizes can increase. It will be noticed before the registration deadline.
  9. By registering to participate in the competition, participants accept the terms and conditions.
  10. Participation in the competition implies the transfer to International Guitar Festival of Madrid the rights of reproduction and distribution, of photographic and recording material, under the legislation on Intellectual Property, through the media considered, all non-profit. Semifinal and Final rounds may be live-streamed.
  11. Organization is not responsible for anything that does not appear in these rules.

12 special string package provided by Knobloch for the best interpretation of the final required piece “Fantasía Andaluza” by composer Ángel G. Piñero.

All other finalists of each category will receive string packages provided by cuerdasdeguitarra.com and an Accrediting diploma.
