Competition Rules

III INTERNATIONAL GUITAR COMPETITION OF MADRID

19 – 27 June 2021

RULES

1. Open to any classical guitarist under the following terms and conditions.
2. There will be two categories:

• Youth: from 15 to 20 years old

       Registration fee: 65 €

• Professional: from 21 to 35 years old

       Registration fee: 80 €

No limit in the number of inscriptions.

3. Rounds and Repertoire

In both categories there will be a preliminary online round. Performers must send a video following the characteristics in point 5 before 11 Abril 23:59h (CEST, UTC+2). In each category, 15 competitors will advance to the next round which will be held in person in Madrid in June if sanitary circumstances allow it. Otherwise, all rounds will be online (if so, it will be noticed far enough in advance).

            Youth Category

• Preliminary Round Video (April 11): a free choice programme of maximum 5 minutes of music. The jury will select 15 competitors for the semifinal round.
• Semifinal Round (June 21): 8 to 10 minutes (of music) of a programme of your choice. Pieces performed during preliminary round cannot be repeated. 5 participants will advance to the Final round.
• Final Round (June 22): 10 to 15 minutes (of music) of a programme of your choice. Pieces performed during previous rounds cannot be repeated.

Professional Category

• 1st round (April 11): a free choice programme of maximum 7 minutes of music. The jury will select 15 competitors for the semifinal round.
• Semifinal Round (June 21): 10 to 12 minutes (of music) of a programme of your choice and the required piece “Evocación” by composer Ángel G. Piñero. Pieces performed during preliminary round cannot be repeated. 5 participants will advance to the Final round.
• Final round (June 22): 10 to 15 minutes (of music) of a programme of your choice, including different styles or periods, and the required piece “Fantasía Andaluza” by composer Ángel G. Piñero (in addition to the 10-15 minutes programme). Pieces performed during previous rounds cannot be repeated.

*Required pieces will be sent to the 15 semifinalists no later than April 26.

4. Documents

In order to participate in the International Guitar Competition of Madrid, participants must fill out the registration bulletin and send it to the e-mail formacion@festivalguitarramadrid.com, including a copy of ID card or Passport (scanned version) and the payment receipt of the registration fee before April 5.

* Protection of Personal Data: The data collected will be processed in accordance with applicable legislation, and in particular Regulation (EU) 2016/679.

5. Videos

Once registrated, competitors of both categories must send the video for the Preliminary round no later than April 11 at 23:59h (CEST, UTC+2). The performer must say his/her name, category and repertoire before playing, making it clear that the video is being recorded for this competition.

• Format: mp4, 720p HD (1280×720) preferably
• The recording must show the performer clearly.
• Interruption of the recording is not allowed, as well as editing and playback.
• The video must be recorded for this competition. Old recordings will not be allowed.

6. The Jury’s veredict for the Preliminary round will be publicly announced on social media before April 26. This veredict will be also sent to the competitors by e-mail.
7. The final and semifinal veredicts will be announced both in person and on social media after the end of each round.
8. Candidates who have won the first prize at the International Guitar Competition of Madrid in previous years cannot     compete in the same category
9. Jury in both categories will be made up of prestigious professionals and important figures in Guitar and Music.
10. The decisions of the jury are final and subject to no right of appeal.
11. The jury may declare undecided prizes.
12. Prizes can increase. It will be noticed before the registration deadline.
13. By registering to participate in the competition, participants accept the terms and conditions.
14. Participation in the competition implies the transfer to International Guitar Festival of Madrid the rights of reproduction and distribution, of photographic and recording material, under the legislation on Intellectual Property, through the media considered, all non-profit. Semifinal and Final rounds may be live-streamed.
15. Organization is not responsible for anything that does not appear in these rules.

All participants in the 2021 Competition will have discounts on the masterclasses in June.
