In addition, the winner of the last Guitar Competition of Madrid and the winners from other festivals will perform in a concert.

Closing Ceremony Concert

The closing ceremony of the festival will take place on 17th June in the Chamber Music Hall of the National Auditorium.  The concert will be performed by Ana Vidovic, internationally renowned and regular guest of Queen Elisabeth II. It will be an excellent opportunity to enjoy the magical atmosphere of summer nights in Madrid.

CLASSICAL GUITAR IN THE WORLD

Over recent years, the popularity of the Spanish guitar has spread worldwide, from the United States to Japan, from Mexico to Italy. Even countries as far afield as Australia, Slovenia, Russia and Korea have organised events of true artistic excellence dedicated to the guitar.

Spain, cradle of the instrument

Spain, the country essentially considered to be the cradle of the instrument has also contributed to this significant increase in popularity by holding cultural events. It cannot be denied that the guitar is an integral part of the festivals of Córdoba, Sevilla, Benicásim or Petrer and in cities like Barcelona there is a constant flow of visitors in search of cultural experiences who find the Spanish Guitar and all associated with it an attractive option.

Madrid and guitar

The International Guitar Festival of Madrid has been created with the purpose of placing the city in the foreground as one of the iconic capitals for this instrument.

The project has come to be thanks to the inspiration and guiding hand of Laura Verdugo del Rey. Well-known internationally as a renowned concert artist, she also teaches at the Conservatorio Superior Katarina Gurska in Madrid and has given masterclasses in several countries around the world including Spain. Having directed the Andrés Segovia International Guitar Festival for a number of years, it is now her aim to promote the guitar in Madrid, one of the most iconic cities for this instrument.
